Se-Quo-Yah
Chief Se-Quo-Yah, son of a Cherokee woman and a white man, was a silversmith by trade. He is best known for giving the Cherokee their greatest gift – communication. He invented the Cherokee alphabet, and with his daughter, taught it to his people. In recognition of his contributions, the Cherokee Nation awarded him a silver medal. Se-Quo-Yah served the Cherokee as a statesman and diplomat until his death.
